The Voice as an Object, Voice I- ONE TWO THREE, REPEAT AFTER ME

Voice I — ONE TWO THREE, REPEAT AFTER ME
Niels Goos & Simulacrum
Exhibition: 15/11 – 27/12 2014
Social gathering: Saturday 15/11 at 6pm

In ‘one two three, repeat after me’, Simulacrum and Niels Goos take on a battle with words and images.

Simulacrum is a publication platform for art historians. An art historian, whose goals it is to explain art, translates images into language. An artist translates ideas into images. However, both images and language have their own shortcomings: one who only reads might forget to look, and one who doesn’t know language will soon discover the boundaries of images. Language and images don’t suffice on their own, and the interaction between them can yield interesting ideas. Artist Niels Goos has translated new words into images. Made of both images and words this work in “DE KIJKDOOS” functions as a language class for the viewer. By associating these words with images, knowledge is acquired. In a normal language class existing ideas or images are coupled with new words. But what happens when both the language  and the images are new?
